Entries Open for RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament 2019

Dear RNZAF Golfing Society Members (Past and Present),

Planning is now well underway for the 69th  RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament taking place at RNZAF Base Auckland Golf Club Sunday 27th – 31st October. The annual tournament is an excellent opportunity to get away from it all for a couple of days, stun us all with your golfing prowess (or at least get your clubs out in the fresh air after a year in hibernation!) and enjoy the great social atmosphere that has been going now for 69 glorious years!!

Firstly our sincere apologies for the late arrival of these tournament entry forms this year’s RNZAF Society Golf Tournament. We have been trying to get to the bottom of the accommodation policy prior to sending the forms out, so thank you for your patience. As alluded to at last year’s AGM there will be a small charge for accommodation for civilian personnel this year, but we’re sure you will agree that it remains relatively inexpensive for accommodation in the Auckland region, and a great week of golf! We are there now so it’s time to sign up and let us know if you are coming along.

Due to the success of the revised 36 hole competition format over the last two years; stroke play will be played over two days (Mon 28th  and Tue 29th ) followed by two days of match play. The 18 hole tournament will have one day of stroke pay (Mon 28th) followed by 3 days of match play.

Sunday 27th Oct will be a practice day for all.

Here are the entry forms:

Entry form Civilian 2019

Entry form NZDF 2019

Please note that there is one entry form for NZDF personnel and a different entry form for non-NZDF personnel which details meal requirements, so please ensure the right entry form is used and returned to RNZAFGolf@nzdf.mil.nz.

For those who need to join or renew their Society membership either do so through a Base Golf Club or use the Society membership application form and return it to RNZAFGolf@nzdf.mil.nz. As detailed on the forms, please note that payments for the tournament and Society membership are paid into different accounts so please send separate payments.

As ever, entries for the tournament are limited so it is important to get your entries in early to avoid disappointment. Whilst it is understandable that work commitments sometimes cannot be confirmed more than a couple of weeks in advance, a cut-off date for entries has been set at Friday 11th  October.   Any entries received after this date will be placed on a reserve list and, dependant on numbers, may only be offered a place in the tournament if space allows.

Accommodation is available to all on the Base, please indicate this on your entry from. Yes the accommodation fee for civilians has come into force this year, it’s a small charge of $23.40 per night. This can all be paid together will tournament entry fee, meals and accommodation.

Meals

NZDF pers are to swipe for all of the meals they take in the mess, civilian players are to indicate on their entry form what meals they wish to partake in. Please don’t select the lunch option as this is available at the golf club through our regular caterer Sue.

Access to Base

Since the Christchurch attack in March there is an increased security state on the Base and Golf Course. Visitors to the course will need to be escorted on and off the course by an NZDF person, this won’t be an issue as there are plenty of us to do that. Base passes will need to be collected at the main gate as per usual.

AGM

The AGM will be held on Tue 29 March after the last group is in from playing, expect 1500 hours. It will be held at the Golf Club so you will have access to food and refreshments.

Fashion in the field

This year we want to shout out to our Honorary member Snoz Healey and hold a fashion in the field day, you all know how much Snoz loves the Plaid so go all out, loud and proud. This will also be Tue 29th and will be judged after the AGM by Snoz and yes there will be an excellent prize.

Clearly, as a milestone 69th year for Society the success of the tournament is heavily dependent on the number of players. On behalf of the organising committee we ask for your continued support in spreading the word and encouraging as many people as possible, new and existing members, to attend and make this a year to remember.

Thanks for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you all in October!

Society Tournament 2015

Society Tournament 2015

A great start to the tournament. Day one of the tournament saw Tyrone Barker as to qualifier for the 18 holers on what was a beautiful day on the Rangitikei.

The qualifying day for the 36ers was wry bit this didn’t dampen the mood with a mix of shoes being produced. Kyle James was the number one qualifier for the day. Congratulations. Stand out performance was from Kev Smith who shot a net 59 and 62. Only dreams are made of that.

Let’s hope the weather improves for the rest of the week.

Day two saw some great competition between friends. A lot of match play round were taken to the 19th or beyond. This year’s tournament has seen a lot of laughter between friends, old and new. Good luck to all finalists tomorrow.

Great finish to the tournament. Giving away about 60 prizes for the night saw most people walk away with something. Some of the winners were:
RNZAF Championship Winner (Senior Cup): Willie Harold
RNZAF Championship Runner Up: Kyle James
Society Championship Winner (Woodbourne Trophy): Craig Revell
Tyro Handicap Winner (Tyro Cup): Min McCann
18 Hole Matchplay Winner: Trev Healey
Retired v Serving: Serving by 0.5 points!

This year saw Snoz Healey reach a 50 year milestone for association with RNZAF Society Golf and was awarded an Honorary Membership. Awesome Snoz, your humour always makes the tournament enjoyable, even when the golf isn’t.

Grunta Shoot-out Challenge 2015

The Grunta Shoot-out Challenge for 2015 was contested by members of Ohakea Golf Club at Rangitikei GC, Wednesday 5 Aug.  This was a 9 hole version of the shoot-out format, contested by 10 players over what turned out to be a very calm and cool Rangitkei golf course which, by the way, is currently in very good condition despite the wet and looking promising  for Society Tournament at the end of the year. Congratulations to Ralph Thomas for winning the event, and it is fair to say that Grunta’s golfing spirit and determination lives on!

2015 Entry Forms

Dear RNZAF Golfing Society Members (Past and Present),

Planning is now well underway for the 65th RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament taking place at Rangitikei Golf Club Sunday 29th November – Thursday 3rd December 2015. The annual tournament is an excellent opportunity to get away from it all for a couple of days, stun us all with your golfing prowess (or at least get your clubs out in the fresh air after a year in hibernation!) and enjoy the great social atmosphere that has been going now for 65 glorious years!!

Here is a link to the entry forms for this years tournament:

Civilian entry form RNZAF Golf Society Tournament 2015

Membership Application RNZAF Golfing Society

NZDF entry form RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament 2015

Please note that there is one entry form for NZDF personnel and a different entry form for non-NZDF personnel which details meal requirements, so please ensure the right form is used. For those who need to renew their Society membership either do so through a Base Golf Club if you are currently serving, or use the membership application form that is also attached and return it to me at the same time as the tournament entries. As detailed on the forms, please note that payments for the tournament and Society membership are paid into different accounts so wherever possible please send separate payments.

As ever, entries for the tournament are limited so it is important to get your entries in early to avoid disappointment. Whilst it is understandable that work commitments sometimes cannot be confirmed more than a couple of weeks in advance, a cut-off date for entries has been set at Friday 13th November. Any entries received after this date will be placed on a reserve list and, dependant on numbers, may only be offered a place in the tournament if space allows.

Accommodation at RNZAF Base Ohakea is being made available again this year to those who request it but please be aware that due to the running of a major NZDF exercise right up to the tournament, availability may be limited or indeed may change at the last minute. I will keep you all informed if availability changes, but encourage you to get your entries in early to avoid disappointment.

Clearly, as a milestone 65th year for Society the success of the tournament is heavily dependant on the number of players. On behalf of the organising committee I ask for your continued support in spreading the word and encouraging as many people as possible, new and existing members, to attend and make this a year to remember.

Thanks for your ongoing support and I look forward to seeing you all in December!

Kind regards,

Date for the 65th Society Tournament 2015 is 29 NOV 15

The date for the 65th Annual RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament has been set at Sunday 29 November to Thursday 3 December 2015 at the Rangitikei Golf Club. This is slightly  later in the year than normal but necessary to deconflict with a busy period within the RNZAF, thus hopefully allowing maximum attendance for serving Society members. Pencil these dates in your diaries and look out for more details and tournament entry forms early next year.

Welcome to your new website

The new RNZAF Golfing Society website is all up and running and ready for you to use. It has been designed for all current and future members to enjoy. Have a look around and get involved.

The important things first:

bunnings_100You need to register now and introduce yourself in the welcome forum for a chance to win a $100 Bunnings voucher. Every society member who introduces themselves goes in the draw for the $100 voucher and the draw will take place on the 01 April 2015 (the Air Force’s Birthday). After you have introduce yourself, feel free to start another topic and use this site to communicate with each other, maybe give a bit of stick before the next tournament.

In the community news section, people like Nick Onley (President), Sean Willis (secretary/ treasurer), Polly Perkins (Ohakea Captain), Digby Bentley (Whenuapai Captain), Merv Hughes (Wellington Captain), Brent Davidson (Woodbourne Captain) and myself (site admin) will keep you up to date with the latest news.

It has been a busy time designing this site and I’d like to thank all those that have helped so far. Have a look around and leave me some feedback in the feedback forum (good or bad).

Have a merry xmas and we’ll see you at the next tournament.
