2021 Tournament Cancelled

Fellow golfers.

It is with some remorse I write to you on behalf of the RNZAF Golfing Society to advise you; the Society executive committee has taken the difficult decision to cancel the annual RNZAF Golfing Society tournament scheduled for 07 – 11 Nov hosted on RNZAF Base Ohakea.

With less than two months to run to the tournament beginning, there were only 18 confirmed entrants. The area Captains canvassed their regional members and were not confident of the numbers increasing sufficiently in time to make hosting the tournament viable. No doubt COVID-19 and the uncertainty of the associated travel restrictions will have been on the mind of many members prior to making a firm commitment to participate. Additionally the support of our benevolent sponsors that allow us to host such a great event each year would not have seen a proportionate audience or return for their investment.

In the 71 years of Society, we have only seen one other cancellation before, and that was in 1951 when waterfront disputes lead to 151 days of strikes. NZ troops were required to go to AK and WN wharves to load and unload ships.

The plan now will be for the executive committee to determine how we can best support the interests of the wider RNZAF Golfing society. This might be through ideas such as regional golfing events supported by Society? With this in mind please contact your Area Captain if you have ideas of how the RNZAF Golfing Society might best support efforts to foster golf until we are able to host the 2022 RNZAF Golfing Society. The society exists to support the promotion of Golf in the RNZAF (past and present). We require your support and input at this time to make sure we continue to support golf.

On behalf of the RNZAF Golfing Society Executive Committee,

Following on the fashion trends from previous years, there will be a Fashion in the Field Theme – 70’s Golf!

This year’s theme honors the 70th Anniversary and we hope that you either make a huge effort to put together a classic 70’s ensemble or, like Des Remihana, take the easy road and just open the wardrobe. There is a mystery judge this year who has been sworn to absolute secrecy. One rule: HAVE FUN

Stay safe, and on behalf of this year’s organising committee we look forward to hosting you at the end of the year.

Entries Open for RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament 2019

Dear RNZAF Golfing Society Members (Past and Present),

Planning is now well underway for the 69th  RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament taking place at RNZAF Base Auckland Golf Club Sunday 27th – 31st October. The annual tournament is an excellent opportunity to get away from it all for a couple of days, stun us all with your golfing prowess (or at least get your clubs out in the fresh air after a year in hibernation!) and enjoy the great social atmosphere that has been going now for 69 glorious years!!

Firstly our sincere apologies for the late arrival of these tournament entry forms this year’s RNZAF Society Golf Tournament. We have been trying to get to the bottom of the accommodation policy prior to sending the forms out, so thank you for your patience. As alluded to at last year’s AGM there will be a small charge for accommodation for civilian personnel this year, but we’re sure you will agree that it remains relatively inexpensive for accommodation in the Auckland region, and a great week of golf! We are there now so it’s time to sign up and let us know if you are coming along.

Due to the success of the revised 36 hole competition format over the last two years; stroke play will be played over two days (Mon 28th  and Tue 29th ) followed by two days of match play. The 18 hole tournament will have one day of stroke pay (Mon 28th) followed by 3 days of match play.

Sunday 27th Oct will be a practice day for all.

Here are the entry forms:

Entry form Civilian 2019

Entry form NZDF 2019

Please note that there is one entry form for NZDF personnel and a different entry form for non-NZDF personnel which details meal requirements, so please ensure the right entry form is used and returned to RNZAFGolf@nzdf.mil.nz.

For those who need to join or renew their Society membership either do so through a Base Golf Club or use the Society membership application form and return it to RNZAFGolf@nzdf.mil.nz. As detailed on the forms, please note that payments for the tournament and Society membership are paid into different accounts so please send separate payments.

As ever, entries for the tournament are limited so it is important to get your entries in early to avoid disappointment. Whilst it is understandable that work commitments sometimes cannot be confirmed more than a couple of weeks in advance, a cut-off date for entries has been set at Friday 11th  October.   Any entries received after this date will be placed on a reserve list and, dependant on numbers, may only be offered a place in the tournament if space allows.

Accommodation is available to all on the Base, please indicate this on your entry from. Yes the accommodation fee for civilians has come into force this year, it’s a small charge of $23.40 per night. This can all be paid together will tournament entry fee, meals and accommodation.

Meals

NZDF pers are to swipe for all of the meals they take in the mess, civilian players are to indicate on their entry form what meals they wish to partake in. Please don’t select the lunch option as this is available at the golf club through our regular caterer Sue.

Access to Base

Since the Christchurch attack in March there is an increased security state on the Base and Golf Course. Visitors to the course will need to be escorted on and off the course by an NZDF person, this won’t be an issue as there are plenty of us to do that. Base passes will need to be collected at the main gate as per usual.

AGM

The AGM will be held on Tue 29 March after the last group is in from playing, expect 1500 hours. It will be held at the Golf Club so you will have access to food and refreshments.

Fashion in the field

This year we want to shout out to our Honorary member Snoz Healey and hold a fashion in the field day, you all know how much Snoz loves the Plaid so go all out, loud and proud. This will also be Tue 29th and will be judged after the AGM by Snoz and yes there will be an excellent prize.

Clearly, as a milestone 69th year for Society the success of the tournament is heavily dependent on the number of players. On behalf of the organising committee we ask for your continued support in spreading the word and encouraging as many people as possible, new and existing members, to attend and make this a year to remember.

Thanks for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you all in October!

On behalf of the organising committee I ask for your continued support in spreading the word and encouraging as many people as possible, new and existing members, to attend and make this a year to remember.

Thanks for your ongoing support and I look forward to seeing you all in November!

RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament 2017 – Entry Forms

The entry forms for this years RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament have been released!

If you are keen to catch up with some friends and play some golf at the same time, then this is the tournament to enter. This is a cheap tournament and the beer is always cold. What more could you want?

Here are some details of the 2017 tournament:

  • Location: For the first time, the RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament will be held at RNZAF Base Auckland Golf Course Whenuapai. This will definitely make a change and the Auckland Golf Club committee are working hard to make sure this tournament is as good as, if not better, than the tournaments held in Rangitikei.
  • When: Monday 04 December – Thursday 07 December 2017. Both the 18 holers and 36 holers start on the same day. This year they are going to trial splitting the two qualifying rounds over two days. No need to stress about doing the 36 holes on one day for qualifying. Now we can get to the social aspect of this tournament a lot sooner!
  • Cost: Entry Fee $110
  • Entries close 10 November 2017, get them in now!

To help spread the word, tell all those that maybe interested and put this poster (attached) up around the office. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Happy golfing!

Update: If you are having trouble with the forms below, use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC available at https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/. Do not use Foxit Reon the ITD.  If using ITD, save the form to your ITD files instead of opening and open via DIXS.
