Dear RNZAF Golfing Society Members (Past and Present),
Planning is now well underway for the 69th RNZAF Golfing Society Tournament taking place at RNZAF Base Auckland Golf Club Sunday 27th – 31st October. The annual tournament is an excellent opportunity to get away from it all for a couple of days, stun us all with your golfing prowess (or at least get your clubs out in the fresh air after a year in hibernation!) and enjoy the great social atmosphere that has been going now for 69 glorious years!!
Firstly our sincere apologies for the late arrival of these tournament entry forms this year’s RNZAF Society Golf Tournament. We have been trying to get to the bottom of the accommodation policy prior to sending the forms out, so thank you for your patience. As alluded to at last year’s AGM there will be a small charge for accommodation for civilian personnel this year, but we’re sure you will agree that it remains relatively inexpensive for accommodation in the Auckland region, and a great week of golf! We are there now so it’s time to sign up and let us know if you are coming along.
Due to the success of the revised 36 hole competition format over the last two years; stroke play will be played over two days (Mon 28th and Tue 29th ) followed by two days of match play. The 18 hole tournament will have one day of stroke pay (Mon 28th) followed by 3 days of match play.
Sunday 27th Oct will be a practice day for all.
Here are the entry forms:
Please note that there is one entry form for NZDF personnel and a different entry form for non-NZDF personnel which details meal requirements, so please ensure the right entry form is used and returned to RNZAFGolf@nzdf.mil.nz.
For those who need to join or renew their Society membership either do so through a Base Golf Club or use the Society membership application form and return it to RNZAFGolf@nzdf.mil.nz. As detailed on the forms, please note that payments for the tournament and Society membership are paid into different accounts so please send separate payments.
As ever, entries for the tournament are limited so it is important to get your entries in early to avoid disappointment. Whilst it is understandable that work commitments sometimes cannot be confirmed more than a couple of weeks in advance, a cut-off date for entries has been set at Friday 11th October. Any entries received after this date will be placed on a reserve list and, dependant on numbers, may only be offered a place in the tournament if space allows.
Accommodation is available to all on the Base, please indicate this on your entry from. Yes the accommodation fee for civilians has come into force this year, it’s a small charge of $23.40 per night. This can all be paid together will tournament entry fee, meals and accommodation.
Meals
NZDF pers are to swipe for all of the meals they take in the mess, civilian players are to indicate on their entry form what meals they wish to partake in. Please don’t select the lunch option as this is available at the golf club through our regular caterer Sue.
Access to Base
Since the Christchurch attack in March there is an increased security state on the Base and Golf Course. Visitors to the course will need to be escorted on and off the course by an NZDF person, this won’t be an issue as there are plenty of us to do that. Base passes will need to be collected at the main gate as per usual.
AGM
The AGM will be held on Tue 29 March after the last group is in from playing, expect 1500 hours. It will be held at the Golf Club so you will have access to food and refreshments.
Fashion in the field
This year we want to shout out to our Honorary member Snoz Healey and hold a fashion in the field day, you all know how much Snoz loves the Plaid so go all out, loud and proud. This will also be Tue 29th and will be judged after the AGM by Snoz and yes there will be an excellent prize.
Clearly, as a milestone 69th year for Society the success of the tournament is heavily dependent on the number of players. On behalf of the organising committee we ask for your continued support in spreading the word and encouraging as many people as possible, new and existing members, to attend and make this a year to remember.
Thanks for your ongoing support and we look forward to seeing you all in October!
